FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Diocese of the Southern Cross Anglican?
Yes. Member churches hold to the Jerusalem Declaration and the 39 Articles.

What is the connection with Gafcon?
The diocese was begun with the help of Gafcon Australia. The formation of the diocese has been welcomed by Gafcon Primates. There are similar dioceses in the USA, Canada, Brazil and New Zealand, where the established Anglican Church in these countries has departed from the teaching of Scripture.

Is the Diocese of the Southern Cross part of the Anglican Church of Australia?
No. The Anglican Church of Australia is comprised of 23 geographically defined dioceses across Australia. The Diocese of the Southern Cross is a separate and parallel Anglican diocese.

Will dioceses or parishes leave the Anglican Church of Australia to join the Diocese of the Southern Cross?
No. Some people (rather than dioceses or parishes) will leave the Anglican Church of Australia . We are regularly being approached by Anglicans who feel conscience bound to leave where they are and wanting to find a new home in the diocese of the Southern Cross.

Will completely new church plants be part of the Diocese of the Southern Cross?

Under God, we hope so! We have been approached by people wanting to do just that.

How many member churches will be part of the Diocese of the Southern Cross?

We don’t know yet. Under God, we hope that many new Anglican churches will be established. Once a sufficient number of member churches join, a synod will be called and a bishop elected.
